^ Final. Modeled in Maya, painted textures in photoshop
and comped in After Effects.

^ Wireframe (not like there is much to show anyway lol)
I quite like it!

By the way, I started a food blog: Afoodcionado!
All I want to do is just write reviews and edit my photos now.

A quick lighting/texturing assignment. The Fusic phone model is courtesy of Chris Eckardt.

^ I think it needs a little more glow.

^ How my meds are making me feeeeeel...
I think next year, I'll have to get a flu shot, even though I hate needles.

Hope everyone is keeping well!

Paper Plants

Posted in Labels: , , , , , ,

You'd think paper was going to be an easy fight for texturing... A quick indirect lighting exercise. I decided to do something fun, and colorful, because I've been lacking some color in my work, so here are some paper plants. At least these won't die on you! Modeling, texturing and lighting done in Maya. Comped in AE.

I found a couple of beautiful and inspiring videos, make sure to check them out:

Beautifully done by Superfad, with one of my favorite designers mentioned within it: Stefan Sagmeister.

Wow... I'm starting to feel the pressure of Senior Show. Crazy.

Last Time Back!

Posted in Labels: , , , , ,

The last season of Otis. I cannot wait to get out of here! Anyway... I'm sure it hasn't hit me yet that it's technically my last time back at Otis.

To start off, I thought I'd enjoy my last weekend of the semester. I ended up having to pay the horrible price of an all-nighter, but nonetheless got a little quicker at modeling and lighting. Here are a few Chris Eckardt assignments, the first one more so modeling and the second one lighting.

^ Quick model with reference below.
I actually like this piece and I think it'll look pretty interesting textured.

Boy was the model Chris gave us... super scary. I did what I could though.

^ like I said, kinda creepy.
I did learn more about portal lights though.

Anyway, I miss home and this is a really cool Tilt Shift video:

End of the Semester Work!

Posted in Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

With the usual end of the semester craming... here's some work I finished up for my finals, as well as one of my WIP thesis projects, Critter Mischief: Food Fight!

Here's a still image:
^ Modeled, textured and lit in Maya.
Textures made in Photoshop and Zbrush, with slap comp done in After Effects

^My Adidas Robot Final.
I'm actually considering re-rendering, cleaning up the animation and giving it a bit more comp work over the break. I had a lot of fun with this, so I think it can get a bit more love. Modeled, textured, rigged and lit in Maya. Shoe model was a courtesy of Chris Eckardt. Comp work done in After Effects.

^Quick slap comp for the start of my second Thesis project!
Maya and After Effects.

^Close Up

It's been an interesting year so far! From the greatest adventures and people from over the summer, to figuring out my Thesis... I really cannot wait until next year! Hope you guys have a wonderful holiday! I'll be posting my new Demo Reel shortly, with a few more revised pieces!

Here's an amazingly executed piece by Piteren. Pretty sick! So check it out:

Industry reviews next week! Excited and nervous as well. Since I haven't posted since last month, here are a few pieces I've been working on... all of which are still WIPs. After next week, I'll have so much to post, including parts of my thesis... and like tradition will have so much stuff you can scroll down through. Wish me luck!

Still animating it!

Time to say goodbye to my bed until next Wednesday!

Chrysler Sebring!

Posted in Labels: , , , , , , , ,

Another car lighting assignment. I figured out what was wrong with my aliasing from last time. It was a definite facepalm moment--just saving on half from AE to Photoshop. At any rate, Chris supplied us with the Chrysler Sebring model. This was done in Maya, comped in AE, and final touches/background where done in Photoshop.

The model was pretty intense, I'm surprised my laptop could handle it. I only have 6 GB of RAM. Man did I push my lappy! That'll do HP laptop, that'll do.

Back to School Truckin'

Toyota Tacoma truck lighting assignment.
I know that somewhere the aliasing went bad... but it's okay, I'm fixing that next week!

It needs more work, but it's good for now! The model was supplied by Chris, while I worked on the lighting and texturing in Maya with compositing work in Photoshop. It's nice getting back into the fourth and final season of Otis! And... wait for it, more animation work coming next week! For now, take a curvy, wavy and beautiful graph editor snapshot from my scene file:

Have a great week guys!

Spring Break!

Posted in Labels: , , ,

Headpieces! Here are some Orthos from Chris Eckardt's class!
I'm glad with how the styling turned out! Chris said the styling could be fit for an animation too... hmmm? I would do something different, but I would still use a color AO. Color AOs are so much fun!

Then here are some quicky quick renders straight from Maya from class on Friday:

I also have stuff from my animation class with Bobby Coddington, but I want to tweak it some more before posting it. Oh so the Internship Fair went pretty sweet! I got a few offers, and I got to talk to some awesome people, some of which where from Brickyard VFX, Sony Imageworks and Three Legged Legs!

Anyway, everyone have some well deserved sleep! Then have an awesome Spring Break or time to relax! I'll still be working through the week here and there, but if you're up in SF, that's where I'm headed for three days! See you up there!

Make sure to check out this commercial too! I heart it:

coffee mafia wip

Posted in Labels: ,

I couldn't snag a Domo coffee cup before they ran out at 7/11... so I made one myself! It's an Eckardt assignment that we get to work on more for next week, which is a good thing as I took only 5ish hours on it. So still a WIP!

Still midterms through, will update this post later with our VFX set extention! Plus NEW WIP business card design!

Here, a video also! Must sleep now!

captain steiner and the midterms

Posted in Labels: , , , , , ,

OH! and I have to say this first of all things... I met and got to talk to Neville Page! Man that guy is like a genius! Luckily I had also just bought January's 3D World Mag earlier that day, and was able to get him to sign it too!

He was really awesome to talk to, and I can't explain how awesome it was! He wrote, "Be Furious, Be Focused, Be Fabulous!" Great words of inspiration!

Okay... now on to:
Midterms!
However, here's a little organic model i did in 9ish hours for Chris. I still need to give him color and textures later, however it's a semi real figure of Captain Steiner form Final Fantasy IX!

So much more animation stuff coming soon, and I'm working on the header as well as a little illustration! Good luck friends with Midterms or Deadlines!

Psssh! A Health Problem?!

Posted in Labels: , , , , ,

This was a really quick, unpolished version of an assignment for Bobby's class! It's the first time I've ever done anything with character/mild acting and facial animation. The audio is from the 11 Second Club! It was a lot of fun! Plus the crit he gave me was worth GOLD!

Then there is this, which is okay... for Chris' Class. GRRR! Must do better next week!:

Also! I went and developed a lot of my 120 film, and here's a look-see at some. Just, going through these make me want summer to be here so soon. Then again, it makes me just want to go home to Thailand:
